Our Story

The core members of Solus Pres began their journey in 2015 as the English Ministry (EM) of a Korean church in Doraville, GA. Over a nine year period, the EM has grown into a thriving and diverse congregation, outgrowing the chapel space, and needing additional elders to help with shepherding. In response to these needs, Rev. John Kim felt called to plant a new church with the EM members, and provide them with a sustainable leadership structure.

In the fall of 2024, With the blessing of our home church (New Church of Atlanta) we were sent out to become a church plant, a mission church within our denomination, Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

Starting November of 2024, Solus Pres began gathering with the core group (first members) for worship at Norcross High School. Our goal is to begin as a "mission church" in the PCA until we become a "particularized church" (with our own session of elders) in the future.

Consider joining us as we cultivate a compassionate, biblical, Christ-centered community together!

What is the Core Group?

Core Group Overview

The core group consists of members who will help launch the church plant in its initial phase, and engage in worship, fellowship, giving, and serving together. It’s not about being more devoted than others but about supporting the church as its regular members in the work of worship, fellowship and service.

Core Group Expectations

While core members are encouraged to be more invested, each person's tithing and degree of involvement will vary depending on their individual circumstances. We believe what matters most is having one's heart invested in the church and contributing in whatever way one can—whether through prayer, time, or financial support.

TEMPORARY STRUCTURE

TEMPORARY SESSION

Until Solus Pres is formally established as a particularized church within the PCA, the presbytery to which Pastor John belongs (Korean Southeastern Presbytery) will appoint a Temporary Session. This session will be led by Pastor John as the moderator and include three or more elders from the presbytery who will provide accountability, counsel, support, and mentorship to Solus Pres.

EXTERNAL SUPPORT

  • Geneva Benefits Group: A denominational agency of the PCA, Geneva Benefits Group provides counsel and consultation to PCA churches and their pastors. They will assist with our budgeting, fundraising, and other matters that require financial consultation.

  • PCA Foundation: The PCA Foundation will aid with fundraising, financial tracking, and other tax-related issues for donations.

  • Mission to North America (MNA):  MNA will offer training, coaching, and other resources for the church planter.

  • Christian Counseling Education Foundation (CCEF): CCEF will provide counseling training for our leaders involved in counseling care at Solus Pres.

INTERIM LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE (ILC)

Formed from former EM members, this committee of deacons and deacon nominees will help with connecting Solus Pres to the PCA and liaising with the temporary session to better care for our members. This delegation will allow Pastor John to focus on preaching, shepherding, and other pastoral duties.

STAFFING

We are currently blessed to have part-time staff members who are generously providing their services for a small honorarium. They are our music director, administrator, and interim children's director. Depending on our fundraising outcomes, we will seek to bring them on a fuller capacities.
